Generations, Model Codes, Engines, Transmissions & Matching Spare Parts
Which Jeep models are there? What are the differences between Jeep Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, CJ, Commander, Renegade, Compass and Gladiator? This overview shows the most important Jeep model ranges, model codes, production years, engine options, transmissions and key technical data at a glance.
This page helps you identify and compare a Jeep model more easily – whether you are looking at Wrangler JL, JK, TJ and YJ, classic Jeep CJ models, or the differences between Cherokee XJ, KJ, KK and KL as well as Grand Cherokee ZJ, WJ, WH / WK and WK2. Matching Jeep spare parts and accessories can be found directly via the linked model categories.
This page is intentionally structured as a technical Jeep model overview. The historical development of the brand – from the Willys MB through CJ, Cherokee and Wrangler to modern Jeep model ranges – is covered separately on our Jeep History – From the Origins to Today page.
Important for selecting the right parts: With Jeep vehicles, model and production year are not always enough. Depending on the model range, the technical model year, the market version – European or US specification, equipment level, brake system or axle type can also be decisive.
Especially with imported vehicles or older Jeep models, careful checking before ordering is worthwhile.
How to use this overview: The most important basic data is shown directly in each model profile. Engine options and transmissions are placed in space-saving expandable sections – especially helpful on smartphones.

Jeep Renegade & Compass Models
Jeep Renegade BU / BV – Model Years from 2014
The Jeep Renegade is the compact SUV within the modern Jeep lineup. It was offered with various petrol and diesel engines and is especially common in Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk trims.
The Jeep Compass PK / MK was one of the brand’s first more compact crossover models. In the shop, the Compass is listed together with the closely related Jeep Patriot.
From 2011 onward, the Jeep Compass received a significantly revised model phase. Design, technical details and the engine range were further developed.
The Jeep Compass MP launched with a completely new design and a modern technical platform. Characteristic features include the narrow seven-slot grille, prominent main headlights and a more mature SUV layout.
The most important Jeep model ranges include Wrangler, CJ, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Commander, Renegade, Compass and Gladiator. Many models are also differentiated by internal model codes such as JL, JK, TJ, YJ, XJ, KJ, WK2 or ZJ.
Why are Jeep model codes such as JK, JL, XJ or WK2 important?
The model codes often determine which spare parts, suspension components, body parts, lighting elements or accessories fit. A Wrangler JK differs technically from a Wrangler JL, just as a Grand Cherokee WH / WK differs significantly from a WK2.
Which details are especially important when selecting suitable Jeep spare parts?
Depending on the vehicle, model code, technical model year, engine, European or US specification, trim level and, where relevant, brake code or axle type can be important. Helpful references are our pages Jeep European Model vs. US Model and Technology & Identification.
Where can I find suitable Jeep spare parts and accessories?
Via the respective model category in the shop, you can directly access suitable Jeep spare parts, off-road accessories, suspension systems, body parts, soft tops, brake components and maintenance items. A complete overview is also available on the All Vehicles page.
Where can I find the historical development of the Jeep model ranges?
The historical background – from the Willys MB and early CJ models to Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and modern Jeep generations – is covered on our Jeep History page.

The Jeep Compass PK / MK was one of the brand's first more compact crossover models. In the shop, the Compass is listed together with the closely related Jeep Patriot.
From 2011 onward, the Jeep Compass received a significantly revised model phase. Design, technical details and the engine range were further developed.
The Jeep Compass MP started with a completely new design and a modern technical platform. Characteristic features include the narrow seven-slot grille, prominent main headlights and a much more mature SUV layout.
The model codes often determine which spare parts, suspension parts, body components, lighting elements or accessories fit. A Wrangler JK differs technically from a Wrangler JL, just as a Grand Cherokee WH / WK differs significantly from a WK2.
